Vancouver Island University experienced an unusual weather event this week, during which we saw classes cancelled three days in a row. The decision to close is never taken lightly and is driven by the safety of our employees and students, which is our first priority. We want to send out a HUGE thank you to our facilities employees who have been working hard to clear the grounds and make our campuses safe for our people.
Another weather system is expected to arrive in our region later today and overnight with the possibility of more snow. If another closure is necessary, an update will be issued by 6:30 am, or sooner if predictable. Otherwise, expect all campuses and facilities to be open (aside from Deep Bay).
We know our region has many micro-climates and accumulation can vary dramatically. If, for any reason, you do not feel comfortable traveling to VIU during these systems, regardless of campus closures, please communicate with your supervisor or instructors. We also know childcare and schools can be affected. No one will be penalized for using your discretion during these events.
Thank you for your patience and understanding this week. Please stay tuned for more information as required.
