Holiday poinsettias grown by students in Vancouver Island University (VIU) Horticulture program will soon be ready at VIU’s G.R. Paine Horticulture Training Centre, located at 2324 East Wellington Road. The Centre is open from 9 am to 3 pm Monday through Friday for poinsettia purchase and pick up from Dec. 1 to 11.

Students have been cultivating more than 1,000 poinsettias, which are offered in four colours: classic red, burgundy, coral red, and white. The plants, which are priced at $9 each, including tax, come in six-inch pots and are colourfully wrapped and sleeved. Grown pesticide free, the poinsettia program offers valuable lessons in greenhouse production for students taking the one-year Horticulture Foundation certificate program.

Poinsettias can be reserved by calling Anne Kivari at 250.754.8756, or by email at anne.kivari@viu.ca. Payment can be made in cash or by cheque made out to VIU.

Those interested in learning more about VIU’s Horticulture Technician Training Program are invited to register for a free information session on Wednesday, Nov. 26 from 6:30 to 8 pm.
