Bill King is the new chair of the Malaspina University-College Board, while V.B. (Vic) Cowley has been elected vice-chair. Both positions are for a one-year term.
King, a retired businessman, is a city councillor and represents the City on the Regional District of Nanaimo.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts from Notre Dame College in Nelson. He has been on the Malaspina Board since May, 1991 and was elected vice-chair, in May 1996.
Cowley, of Duncan, is the executive director of the Cowichan Valley Association for Community Living. He is responsible for the administration and coordination of 21 programs and over 100 staff who provide support for children and adults who live with developmental and physical disabilities, as well as their families.
Cowley was the executive director of the Nelson and District Community Resource Board, executive director of the Canadian Paraplegic Association of Southern Alberta, and served two terms on the Board of Governors for the University of Calgary.
He attended the University of Calgary, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Psychology.
Two Nanaimo residents were recently appointed to the Malaspina Board by Moe Sihota, minister of Education, Skills and Training. Serving one-year terms each are Shelley Garside, and former School District #68 Board chair Randi Kocher.
In addition, students Michael Martell and Fred Wilson were recently elected for one-year terms to the Malaspina University-College Board.
